Welcome to "Life with the Maxies"! Kyle likes to think of it as "Maxie Madness". We live in Hattiesburg and are the proud parents of Kolt Allen who is 19 months and Kylee Jo who just recently turned one month old. Kyle is the head baseball coach at PCS and I am a first grade teacher at Earl Travillion Attendance Center. We attend Venture Church and are so happy that God chose to lead us there! We are so thankful for all of the many blessings God has bestowed upon us and pray that He can use us to be His light for others to see Him.

Months 10 & 11

We decided to combine months ten and eleven. It is hard to believe that the next blog I post will be about our sweet boy turning one year old! Over the past two months we have done so many fun things and Kolt has been able to experience several new firsts.

Kolt has begun to talk! He started out by saying “ma-ma” and “bye bye” both in one night while I was feeding him ice cream. His next word was of course his favorite that he says ALL the time, “da-da.” We love listening to his conversations he has with others, himself, and us. Kolt has also begun to start taking a few steps. He loves to walk from the front to the back of his pack and play on his own.

As a family we have been able to so many fun things over the past few weeks. We went to Mitchell Farms to the pumpkin patch. We all had so much fun! Kolt loved taking pictures and seeing all of the new things. This was also Kolt’s first Halloween. Despite the weather, we were able to get a little trick-or-treating in that night. He was the cutest pumpkin we had ever seen. Luckily he did not mind wearing his costume! We have been able to go to several football games together, which he loves. Recently, Kolt went to his first basketball game. He never took his eyes off of the boys running up and down the court!

It is also hunting season at the Maxie house. Kyle killed his first doe of the season a few weeks ago. Kyle wanted to make sure Kolt got a picture with him and his deer. Of course, without any fear what so ever, Kolt reached down and grabbed the deer by her ear, like he had killed it! I don’t think there are too many things that could have made Kyle any more proud!

While Kolt turned 11 months old, we were in Monroeville for ours friends’ wedding. We all enjoyed being back in Monroeville for a few days and seeing old friends and family. Kolt sure loved getting to spend time with his Big Daddy, Nana, and Aunt Sarah (especially where there was a toy emergency and they HAD to go to Wal-Mart).

These next few weeks will be filled with sweet family traditions and will fly by. We look forward to Kolt’s first Thanksgiving, his first birthday party and his second Christmas. I pray we, as well as others do lose sight of the real meaning of the upcoming holidays.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. Psalm 95:2-3

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

Happy 11 months!

Our big boy is 9 months old! The past month has been filled with more “firsts”. After weeks and weeks of agony from teething, his first tooth finally broke through! A few days later we noticed his second tooth breaking through. We were so proud for him! Kolt has also learned to wave hello and “bye-bye”. He loves to wave! He also enjoys waving to us when we tell him “no no” or come back. Kolt also loves to tell people “Hey” and it is so sweet!  He is trying so hard to walk on his own. I honestly thought that by my 9th month blog, I would be able to say he was walking, because he wants too so badly!

Kolt loves going to the PCS football games. We sit on the grass on the side of the field so he can play with his toys. He loves to see daddy during half time of the JV games! He hasn’t been to his first college game yet, but that will come later on in the season.
During the week Kolt stays with his MiMi. There, he loves to play outside and play with their puppy Louie. They both have the same amount of energy!

Also this month, Kolt stayed with his Big Daddy, Nana, and Aunt Sarah while mommy and daddy went to Atlanta for the Alabama opening game. He had a fabulous time! Mommy did really well also, being away that long from her baby. But I knew he was in great hands!

It seems unreal that I am already starting to make preparations and plans for his first birthday party. (It’s not that I am just that excited, but with our busy schedules, I need extra time!) We can’t wait to celebrate all of the upcoming holidays with our sweet boy! I know month 9 holds much in store for the three of us and we cannot wait to see what it holds!

Months Seven & Eight

Whew! That’s about all I can say right now! I know I am two month behind on my blogs but I am going to combine the past two.

Month Seven:

To sum it up, we have a busy little boy! During month seven Kolt took off crawling and he has yet to stop! He also started pulling up which resulted in the baby bed being lowered all the way. His favorite new sound he developed in month seven was growling like a “dinosaur”! He jabbers away all the time. He decided on his own to start waving hello when someone comes up to him. When he gets excited about something he starts clapping. His fine motor skills amaze us. He loves to sit and pick at things, especially tags!

During month seven, Kolt and his friend Cannon went to the zoo in Hattiesburg. They enjoyed looking at the different scenery, despite the heat! I definitely complained more about the heat than he did!  Also that afternoon, Kyle, Kolt, and I drove to Jackson to the Wildlife Extravaganza. Kolt loved riding in his stroller looking at all of the booths. That Sunday afternoon we rode out with daddy to check his deer cameras. Kolt is following in daddy’s footsteps.

The biggest adjust during month seven was mommy going to work. Kolt started going to his Mimi’s everyday while mommy and daddy go to work. We are so blessed that we don’t have to worry about him during the day, we know he is in wonderful hands. School starting back has worn mommy and daddy out, and Kolt too! He has started going to sleep much earlier at night!

Month Eight:

I don’t want to be one of those moms who always say “I can’t believe it has been 8 months” but time really flies by when you’re having fun!  Our family is now in a “school routine”. Mommy gets up and leaves for work at 6. Daddy gets Kolt up and ready and drops him off with MiMi at 7. Mommy picks him up in the afternoons and we head home to wait for daddy to get home from football practice. Things are about to get even more fun when we throw football games in the mix on Thursday & Friday nights!

Just when we think we have things put up so Kolt can’t reach them, he changes things to a whole new level! He pulls up on everything to stand and hold on with one hand. His new trick is to stand by the coffee table and beat it like a drum! He gets more and more brave every day. He keeps trying to take a few steps, which makes me very nervous! He loves to crawl with a toy in hand. He has two speeds: sneaky (which is slow) and turbo! He makes new sounds every day like telling me (very clearly) “NO” when I asked if he had a poopoo diaper on, which it turned out he was telling the truth!

Last weekend Kolt and I got to go and watch daddy play baseball. He was such a trooper to be there all day and in and out of the heat! I know he will love going to the football games this year! Tomorrow Kolt will start in his new nursery class at church, which is bitter sweet. We sure do love the sweet ladies that have taken care of him since he started!

And yes, while I type this I have a little boy that wants to help type!! I have had to backspace several times. He also likes to unplug my computer.  I know these were late, but better late than never!

Kolt's Baby Dedication

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” Jeremiah 1:5

On June 23, 2013 Kyle and I dedicated Kolt to the Lord in front of our family and church family. Before the dedication, we attended a brief parenting class at our church. This reminded us of ways to be the Christian parents we need to be for Kolt. Also for Kolt’s dedication we are asked to pick out a verse for him. We prayed about it and were lead to use the verse that I prayed over during my pregnancy, Jeremiah 1:5. As soon as we found out we were having a boy, I painted that verse on a canvas for his nursery. The canvas is above his crib.

Kolt’s baby dedication was so special to us. Kyle and I were humbled to dedicate our child to the Lord who so graciously blessed us with this precious child. We also dedicated ourselves to follow our Shepherd in raising our child. “He tends his flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; He gently leads those who have young.” Isaiah 40:11. I am so thankful our Pre-school director shared this verse with us during our class; of course the last part speaks to me the most.

Our baby dedication is always at the very end of the service and only one baby per Sunday. The ladies from the nursery had Kolt dressed and ready to go (they are absolutely fabulous!) when we walked out to go on stage. Once on stage Bro. Jeff Clark took Kolt for the dedication and of course his words made me tear up! He read Kolt’s verse and explained how powerful it is that God knows us before we are even formed. I think Bro. Jeff had our whole row of family tearing up or crying! Kolt did great on stage, a little talking and trying to grab Bro. Jeff’s microphone on his face!

After church we all headed to Mac’s on the River for a fabulous lunch that everyone enjoyed! Once we had all eaten lunch everyone went to our house to enjoy a sweet reception for Kolt. We had cake and punch and time for fellowship to celebrate our blessed day. When I say Kolt never fussed throughout the day, I’m serious. He never cried once and that was with everyone passing him around, being out and about, being dressed up and having tons of people at his house! Kyle and I are so thankful and blessed that we were able to celebrate and share this special day with our family.

We ask for prayers from our family and friends for our sweet Kolt. That he may grow up knowing Christ as his personal Savior. We also ask for prayers for us as, that we may raise this child in the Lord. We thank God everyday for our sweet Kolt!

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:13-14

6 Months!

I remember thinking on December 8, 2012 “My son will be 6 months in June. That is forever away.” However, those 6 months have flown by and our big boy turned 6 months old today! Kolt is definitely one happy, energetic and smart boy. Right now, he is in a squealing phase. He usually wakes up squealing and does it until he goes to sleep. He is very verbal, like “yelling” at us when we are not looking at him or at his toys while he plays. He is a MESS and is always on the go! Kolt is very close to crawling but just can’t quite put it all together. Along with crawling he is trying to sit up and pull up all at the same time which usually results in a flop on the floor! However, he is all over the living room! He constantly has us cracking up or saying “watch him do that!”

We had a fun yet crazy month winding down the school year. During the last couple of weeks of school Kyle developed his infection in his arm which led to him being VERY sick. This also led to Kolt’s first night away from home. He stayed at Kyle’s parent’s house in order for me to be able to take care of Kyle during the night. One thing Kyle remembers from that night is me crying saying “I miss Kolt man!” but we all made and it was for the best! Thankfully, God has healed him and we are well. Kolt got to go to his first crawfish boil and he had a blast; lying in the hammock, eating ice cream, drinking sweet tea, playing in the sand and creek, and getting a bath in the camper sink.

Thankfully, we have been able to actually have some relaxing family time. I didn’t know what it felt like to have my husband coming home around 3:45 every day or being able to spend all day with us! I can definitely say we are all getting a little spoiled! Kolt and I love having “dada” home with us during the day!

More of our prayers have been answered during the past few weeks. Kyle will be returning to PCS next year and the Forrest County School Board will be voting on me to become a Kindergarten teacher at Earl Travillion Attendance Center in the fall. Hopefully I will be getting a phone call within the next few days with great news!  This week we start Vacation Bible School at First Hattiesburg and I will be doing four year old missions. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for all of us this week. Also, we are excited to say that Kolt will have his baby dedication on June 23 at First Hattiesburg. We look forward to celebrating this blessed event with our family and friends!

Even though it is the summer, we still have a pretty full schedule with Kyle’s football, our church Growth Group, my workshops and hopefully getting things ready for the next school year!  We look forward to a fun-filled summer together!

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm 23:5

5 months

Our Kolt man is now 5 months old! We have had so much fun over the past month. There is never a dull moment with this silly little guy! He has the sweetest and funniest personality! Kolt has had an exciting month, with the biggest “change” being baby food. There is no doubt that our child loves to eat! So far we have not found a baby food that he does not like. (Granted we are still on the stage 1 foods) Usually, we cannot get the spoon in his mouth fast enough! He has recently started “helping” by shoving the spoon in his mouth..haha!

Play time is definitely more active! He loves to be on his tummy and play with his toys. However, he gets SO frustrated and mad when he tries to crawl and cannot get anywhere while playing. We know it will not be long before he is scooting around the living room! His new “finds” are his feet and toes. He loves to grab his feet and try to get those toes in his mouth, which is unsuccessful because his tummy gets in the way!

I absolutely love to read and always have. I strongly believe this is from my parents always reading to me when I was little. When I say read, I mean me critically going through the books..haha. I hope to instill the love of reading in Kolt. Even though he is only 5 months old, he loves to be read too. He loves looking at the pictures. Now when I read, he likes to take the books from my hands and hold it himself! Every night before we go to sleep, we pick out a bible story and a prayer to read.

As hard as it is to believe, out first baseball season at PCS has come and gone. We are so proud of all of the hard work and accomplishments Kyle has achieved this season. For the most part, he completely redid the field and it looks great! We have enjoyed being at the games and were glad that the weather decided to cooperate and let Kolt watch daddy’s last games. He stayed awake for most of the time and loved sitting in someone’s lap to watch the game. Pretty sure this was the ONLY season that he will sit still and watch a game! We were also able to go to another Southern Miss game, this time he was actually awake! We sat outside and he sat in our laps bouncing to the music and watching the game.

Kolt loves to go to Kyle’s grandparent’s house. He loves to swing outside! He recently walked in the grass (with help of course) and went and smelled Maw-Maw’s rose bush. This month Kolt also went “fishing”. While mama and daddy did most of the fishing, Kolt did pose with one of the fish! I’m sure he will follow in his daddy’s footsteps and want to be outside all the time!

Kolt blesses us more and more each day. He always has a smile for us and something “to say”. We thank God every day for such a sweet and healthy little boy. We look forward to seeing what this next month has in store for us!

Rejoice always,  pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18
